How Stress Has Changed Our View of Tavel

Once upon a time in the not too distant past, the average person never considered hopping on a plane and visiting a foreign, sunny beach island as a regular part of their life.

It’s hard for us to imagine but some families never considered any extended vacation from work and home as part of normal family life.  It was more of a once in a lifetime luxury.

But in a relatively short amount of time the view of travel and vacations has changed for the average American family.  It is common to save and plan for a vacation away from work and home, possibly making your destination in a foreign country not much of a foreign idea.

Why the change?

  • Consider how our lives are dramatically different from family life 60 or more years ago.  Although families back then worked just as hard we do today, we propose that the amount of demands on the average family in day to day life is greater and robs many of us of that daily unwinding and family reconnecting time.  How many people today feel that they will have extra time this week , all their errands done and might just leisurely drop in and visit relatives, eat cake and play a game of cards?  Unfortunately our “down” time is shrinking while life’s demands are increasing.

With the reality of our changing times in mind many see the wisdom of planning to carve out some time away from life’s business and enjoy some couple or family together time.  And sometimes, if possible, the only way for this to really happen is to become “unable to be reached” for a short time.

With the modern advances in travel, the availability to reach faraway  places is more reachable than at any other time in history.   And we at Suite Dreams Travel are dedicated to helping you and yours to find the perfect vacation together.

The Perfect Flowers for Your Destination Wedding

A destination wedding allows you to be surrounded by beautiful scenery, but that doesn’t mean you’ll go without flowers. Wedding flowers are still an important part of your destination wedding. Here are a few tips for having the perfect flowers for your destination wedding.

  • Go local: Think about the flowers that are native to your destination. These will often suit the style of your wedding, and the overall look of your venue.
  • Choose by color: Even if you don’t know what types of flower you prefer, you will know the colors. Flowers are an ideal way to bring in your wedding colors, but you can also choose to use white flowers to offer a contrast to bright colors of bridesmaids’ dresses.
  • Don’t forget foliage: Foliage can make even a boring bouquet dramatic and beautiful. It is also a great addition to your centerpieces, and can give your reception a tropical feel.
  • Have a great florist: The most important part of any wedding flower choice is the florist. When you plan a destination wedding, work with your planner to find the best florist available. As you might not be able to meet with them in person, getting a recommendation can be very important.

Choosing a Wedding Cake for Your Destination Wedding

With beautiful decoration and delicious flavor, the wedding cake is a part of your big day that you and your guests will enjoy. Choosing a wedding cake for a destination wedding can be trickier than planning one for a wedding closer to home.

While a local wedding will generally use a local baker, who you can visit for design discussions and tastings, your destination wedding will require a baker near your venue. You might not be able to taste the cakes beforehand, and your discussion of design might be limited.

Many destination wedding venues offer cakes as part of their packages. As local bakers used to creating wedding cakes, they will have all the knowledge you need for the perfect cake. This includes issues such as temperature control that will have an impact on frosting types and other decorations, such as cut flowers.

When you work with an experienced destination wedding planner, we can help you find all the vendors you need for your perfect wedding. To find out more about what we can do, give us a call today!

Planning an Engagement Party

If you’ve decided on a destination wedding, you might not be able to invite all the guests you’d ask to a wedding closer to home. One way to celebrate with everyone is to host an engagement party.
An engagement party can be the perfect way to celebrate your love. They are often less formal than a wedding or post-wedding reception, and they allow you to share this special time with a larger group of friends.

It’s also the perfect way to include those who aren’t able to travel to your destination. They can still toast to your upcoming marriage, and feel like a part of your big day. Consider having a special guest book at your engagement party where guests can leave messages to be read at your destination wedding.

Planning an engagement party doesn’t have to be difficult. It can be anything from a relaxed cocktail party to a fabulous night of glamor. Working with a destination wedding planner can also make things easier, as you won’t have the stress of wedding planning to deal with.
